From elevated viewpoints overlooking secluded beaches to sweeping ocean vistas stretching towards the Blasket Islands, the scenery constantly changes throughout the drive. Travelling privately allows the freedom to pause whenever the views deserve a photograph or simply a quiet moment to appreciate the landscape. It’s this combination of spectacular scenery and relaxed exploration that makes Slea Head one of the highlights of the Dingle Peninsula.

05
Atlantic Panorama

Blasket Islands Viewpoint

Standing at one of the peninsula’s most famous viewpoints, you’ll look across the Atlantic towards the remarkable Blasket Islands, once home to a thriving island community renowned throughout Ireland for its rich storytelling traditions and unique way of life. Today the islands remain uninhabited, adding to their sense of mystery and natural beauty. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, crashing waves and endless ocean views, this location perfectly captures the wild character of Ireland’s western coastline. It’s one of the most photographed stops along the route and provides an unforgettable opportunity to experience the scale and beauty of the Atlantic landscape.

06
Edge of Europe

Dunquin

Continuing west, the route reaches Dunquin, one of the most dramatic and iconic locations on the Dingle Peninsula. Overlooking the famous Dunquin Pier and the Blasket Islands beyond, this spectacular viewpoint offers breathtaking coastal scenery in every direction. The steep winding road leading to the pier has become one of Ireland’s most recognisable images, while the surrounding cliffs showcase the raw power of the Atlantic Ocean. Whether you’re capturing photographs or simply taking in the views, Dunquin provides one of those unforgettable moments that stays with visitors long after they’ve left the peninsula.

07
Atlantic Coastline

Clogher Beach

Sheltered beneath the slopes of Mount Eagle, Clogher Beach offers a peaceful contrast to the dramatic cliffs found elsewhere along the route. This beautiful crescent-shaped beach is framed by rolling green hills and crystal-clear Atlantic waters, creating one of the peninsula’s most picturesque coastal settings. Depending on the weather and tide, the colours of the sea change constantly, making every visit unique. It’s an ideal place to pause, breathe in the fresh Atlantic air and appreciate the quieter side of the Dingle Peninsula before continuing the scenic journey through one of Ireland’s most beautiful landscapes.

Riasc Monastic Settlement

Hidden within the peaceful countryside lies Riasc, one of the Dingle Peninsula’s most important early Christian sites. Founded more than a thousand years ago, this ancient monastery is best known for its beautifully carved stone cross and the remains of its original monastic enclosure. Surrounded by fields and distant mountain views, Riasc offers a fascinating glimpse into Ireland’s early religious history and the communities that once flourished here. Far removed from busy tourist attractions, it remains a quiet and reflective place where visitors can connect with the peninsula’s rich cultural heritage.

09
Historic Landmark

Gallarus Oratory

One of Ireland’s most remarkable early Christian monuments, Gallarus Oratory has stood for over a thousand years and remains one of the finest examples of ancient dry-stone construction anywhere in Europe. Built entirely without mortar, its perfectly fitted stones have protected the interior from the Atlantic weather for centuries, demonstrating extraordinary craftsmanship. The simple yet elegant design reflects the skill and dedication of the early Christian community who worshipped here. Today, Gallarus Oratory remains one of the Dingle Peninsula’s most iconic landmarks and offers visitors an unforgettable insight into Ireland’s remarkable architectural and spiritual heritage.

Professional and friendly tour of the Dingle Peninsula.

The morning of our tour brought rain. Steve kindly offered flexibility so we could get the best views and make the most of our tour. He arrived promptly in a pristine car, and we headed out. He asked what we'd be most interested in. Throughout our tour, Steve shared his deep knowledge of the area and its varied history.
